Many people have told me that my interesting life together with my Soulmate and Karmic partner wife Lisa Wood, warrants a book. Instead of a conventional book I developed an evolutive autobiography, i.e. always a work in progress where I post content about my life. This site contains everything from my scientific and technical work to my amazing real life adventures, i.e. I am a novel blend of Albert Einstein, Rooster Cogburn and a non-religious evangelical minister. Hence the title of my autobiography ‘Nosce te Ipsum’ – Know Thyself.

This site autobiography also is helping me to put my diverse life into a gestalt perspective. As I write this autobiography I evolve the content if I believe I should express something differently and sometimes not at all. There may also be subscription based chapters too.

Now let me begin with the main thing I have learned in my life to date. The main thing I have learned well is the central principle of Zen, which is transition, i.e. nothing ever stays the same. The only thing you can depend on is change. Even though things are great in the moment, (or the opposite, its the same in Zen), in the next everything could change. One must be prepared for such changes and respond with immediacy, without hesitation.

My life with Lisa is to challenge conventional wisdom and create paradigm shifts in science and technology. In so doing we generate novel Intellectual Property (IP), which is how we make a living, (we have done other risky, sometimes wild work as I will detail on this site too), and personally live life interestingly. A paradigm shift is, according to Thomas Kuhn, a change in the basic assumptions (i.e. the conventional wisdom), or paradigms, within the ruling theory of science (or anything for that matter). This is in contrast to normal science, which is the routine work conducted by the majority of scientists as they work and experiment within a paradigm, where they slowly accumulate detail in accord with established broad theory and practice, where they do not challenge or attempt to test the underlying assumptions of the the existing established broad theory. According to Kuhn, normal science possesses a built in mechanism that ensures its continuation. Normal science does this by its practitioners relaxing the restrictions that bound the research and engineering whenever the paradigm from which it derives ceases to function effectively.

Our life style is not for the timid or for those who dwell on what they think can not be done or accomplished, i.e. you can tell the pioneers by the arrows sticking out of their back. My wife Lisa says “If it can be thought it can be achieved” and she is correct as I and she have repeatedly demonstrated. As an example I have made a living designing novel compounds and creating disruptive novel computational methods to design them. In contrast ask an industry computational chemist if he makes his living based on the novel compounds he discovers and he will say NO. Below is a video on adaptive compounds that I pioneered the development of in the year 2000, when I developed the very first adaptive compound. Notwithstanding, over the years I’ve developed effective asymmetric methods to deal with the legions of normal science type wild potatoes stuck underground in their own Private Idaho, while living life interestingly with my super intelligent and lovely vivacious wife Lisa. The main thing to remember, (and don’t kid yourself), size, looks and brains do matter.

Note that I like to use imagery, sound, video and film for broad band communication. Broad band communication is defined here as the transmission of information through a narrow channel with maximum message information content. The channel here is communicating messages to the human mind through the relatively narrow channel of words. Imagery, sound, film and video enhance message transmission, i.e. the majority of the human brain is devoted to processing imagery and sound. Therefore information transmission is greatly enhanced through a narrow-channel by communication with imagery, sound, video and film. Information I communicate takes this broad band information form, which is different than the usual definition of broad band communication, i.e. basically fat channels. Here the channel is relatively narrow but information transmission through the channel is very wide.

While on the subject, I do not believe in using YouTube because it has become a totally uncontrolled medium for horrendous and vile comments. YouTube has become the skid row of the Internet in my opinion. Many of the YouTube videos reflect complete dilapidation and for that matter social networking is a fad that will transition once privacy issues are violated. This is why I don’t participate heavily on social networks, i.e. they are transitory.
